How I Create Images (Traditional Digital) - and non-use of AI

I endeavor to avoid AI - full stop. It is never within my writing - howsoever ‘mundane’; and AI is never utilized in my artwork. Will it ever be? Highly doubtful; but if it ever is, it will be for extremely limited applications - such as more quickly portraying a UAP NHI object/entity or event. But, as I am extremely specific in my eye-witnessed observations, I doubt it will be efficient in prompting the precise expectations I bring to the process let alone NHI who first presented the object/entity or event to me (yes, they expect accuracy and transparency in everything shared - and I honor that). If ever utilized, I will always fully disclose the application and the specifics of its use.

I often utilize both traditional pencil, pen and ink, paint, canvas, watercolor paper, clay… etc. separate from or together with individual digital rendering tools. This will often apply to a digital photograph or an illustration I have sketched. I will then utilize the base image and apply digital darkroom-style or illustrative tools to adjust aspects of exposure, contrast or other common balances; or, in cases of re-creating a witnessed event, I may employ digital tools rendering shapes, “brush” effects with a digital color palette, transparency effects - all of which are now in relatively common use among both traditional and digital artists, as access to individual digital ‘tools’ of manipulation broadens but remain within the strict control of the artists’ hand and vision. No AI prompts or commands, here.

“Portrait” is a singular exception to the use of a known, existing image to articulate a derivative instance of presumably another human’s video footage. In the case of “Portrait”, the precise details of the footage were a near exact duplicate of what NHI presented to me (rendered, themselves or itself in cloud vapor) - and, I felt the making of a derivative work without apparent source to cite was too important and consequential not to create the derivative digital work. Again, full credit to “ivan0137” of YouTube. The final piece I rendered is highly manipulated away from the video format, then adjusted to best reflect a more accurate representation of “Skinny Bob” (which I was astonished to see in the video - itself occurring long after the image appeared in the sky). So, I made a transparency, and fitted it against a digitally rendered stormy sky background, then worked with various digital tools to come up with the final image - itself an abstract representation and not exact. However, fun footnote - Being rushed to finish a rudimentary image, and not having worked in the digital realm for nearly a decade, I was just about to give up, thinking, ‘well, what the hey. I’m not going to be able to get this exact, anyway; so I might as well just give up the whole idea. An electrical storm was on my tail, and was just about to stop and unplug when… lo’. I recognized a familiar collaborative impulse; and was inspired to consider a more artistic rendering - a rather abstract effort that might still, in every meaningful way, visually communicate both precise detail and also mood and effect, which was a very strongly desired feature of the piece. So, yes… NHI and I slammed that final image together in about 30 minutes, and only thirty seconds ahead of unplugging followed by a monster clap of rattling thunder. Together we knocked out even the complications of transparency which I’d long forgotten how to manipulate. And booyah! Now, others can kind of get a more rounded sense of that moment. This wasn’t the first time I’ve collaborated with NHI (aka “muse’). They had a hand in The Path too. And probably other instances throughout my life I was a bit less unaware of at the time.
